All cakes, pies, cookies and breads at Bread Stuy are baked from scratch using the finest, natural ingredients:  pure vanilla, fresh fruit, fresh eggs, rich dark chocolate and more.  We do not use any preservatives, commercial cake mixes or fillings.
Cakes are made to order, with a 24 to 48 hour turn-around, not mass produced, so please give us time to complete your order, 1-2 days for standard sizes (6″, 8″ or 10″).  Additional time may be required for large orders.  We do cupcakes too!

 

Special order cakes (birthday, baby & bridal showers, wedding or other celebrations) can be customized to your liking.  If you are thinking of some other flavor combination or have dietary restrictions due to a food allergy or diabetes, give us a call, we will do our best to accommodate you.

Cake Flavors                                                                                              

Yellow:  a dense, buttery yellow cake flavored with real vanilla bean.  Although delicious as is, this cake can also be flavored with Almond, Lemon, and/or Orange.
Red Velvet:  a southern favorite found right here in Bed Stuy.  A delicate and moist cake with a touch of cocoa traditionally frosted with a sweet cream cheese frosting and topped with chopped pecans.
Chocolate:  a rich, dense chocolate cake made with high quality cocoa and melted chocolate.
Carrot:  a perfectly spicy and moist carrot cake made with toasted walnuts, traditionally topped with a cream cheese frosting.
Lemon Pound:  a traditional pound cake made with fresh lemon juice and zest. Genoise:  a lightly textured dairy-free sponge cake that can be flavored to your liking.  This cake is often soaked with a flavored alcohol (Framboise, Amaretto, etc.) or alcohol-free simple syrup for extra flavor.  Great canvas for lightly flavored French Vanilla Buttercream and some fresh fruit!
Pumpkin Spice:  a cake reminiscent of my favorite season.  Real pumpkin and holiday spices in a moist delicious cake available all year ‘round.
White:  a delicate vanilla scented cake, great for young children’s birthday cakes. Pistachio: a decadent party cake, flavored with pistachios and wonderfully paired with white chocolate buttercream, topped with pistachio brittle
Coconut:  a moist yellow cake flavored and filled with shredded coconut, frosted with a coconut buttercream and lightly toasted coconut.  Add a fruit filling like lemon or passionfruit curd or pineapple preserves for a special treat!
Icings                                                                                                          
French Vanilla Buttercream:  a lighter textured buttercream (think whipped cream) that many think tastes like vanilla ice cream.  This buttercream can come in a variety of flavors including lemon, almond, vanilla, mocha and chocolate or fresh berries..
Traditional Buttercream:  a not too sweet frosting made with real butter.  Typical flavors include Vanilla, Chocolate, Almond, Lemon, Coconut and Mocha.  Fruit can be incorporated into this buttercream as well, popular mix-in flavors include bananas foster and “berries n cream” buttercreams.
Cream Cheese:  Made with butter and cream cheese and whipped to a delectable fluffiness.  This icing is a perfect companion to our carrot, pumpkin and red velvet cakes.
Chocolate Caramel Ganache:  a creamy chocolate icing (or filling) that makes the finest chocolate even better with a hint of caramel.  This icing can be poured for a mirror like finish or whipped into a traditional frosting.
Fondant:  a moldable sugar coating used to make more elaborate designs.  This icing is used mostly on wedding and themed special occasion cakes.  We make our own from scratch!
Fillings                                                                                             
Fresh Fruit Preserves:  we like to slowly cook the fresh pineapple, strawberries, or raspberries down with sugar and vanilla bean. Fruity and tart without being too sweet!  (Other seasonal berries can also be used.)
Fruit Curd:  Fruit-based custard made with real butter, eggs, sugar and fruit such as lemon, orange, raspberry or passionfruit.
Buttercream:  traditional or “whipped cream” vanilla buttercream
Ganache:  white chocolate or dark chocolate caramel.
Pastry Cream:  a vanilla custard or pudding
